Curriculum (Years 11 and 12)

In Years 11 and 12 students are offered a broad range of courses to satisfy the requirements of the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA). Year 11 (Preliminary HSC) students are required to study a minimum of 12 units and Year 12 (HSC) must study a minimum of 10 units. English is a mandatory course in Stage 6.

Students choose APGS for their senior studies because they are inspired to pursue a creative education. Along with a wide range of academic subjects, APGS will always offer all four creating/performing arts courses for senior study; Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Arts. APGS allows students to engage with their passions while achieving the High School Certificate.  We provide a unique way for students to approach their HSC with integrated specialist training in the performing arts delivered by our rotating staff of performing arts tutors. APGS provides a place for students to engage with like-minded peers and to celebrate their creativity.

Stage 6 - Year 11 and 12

Currently we offer:

Standard English / Advanced English / Extention English

• Standard Mathematics / Advanced Mathematics

• Business Studies

• Drama

• Music (Course 1)

• Dance

• Visual Arts

Senior students may select other courses to undertake for their HSC which are available through Sydney Distance Education High School (non-languages), Open High School (languages) or TAFE Vocational HSC subjects. Such courses attract an additional fee.

APGS Offers HSC Pathways

While most students complete their HSC over two years during Years 11 and 12, there are other options. If you want to study while you work, care for your family or, for example, take part in elite sports or cultural activities, one of these five pathways may be suitable for you.

1. Accumulating

You can take up to five consecutive years to finish your studies, starting from the first year you complete an HSC course. After five years, you must have met all HSC requirements, including the HSC minimum standard (from 2020).

2.     Repeating

You can repeat one or more courses within the five years (see pathway 1) without penalty. Your Record of Achievement will show the results of all attempts. The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) will calculate your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) from the results of your most recent attempt.

3. Accelerating

You may be able to accelerate in a course, sit for the HSC exam for that course (usually at the end of Year 11) and accumulate your results.
